Shark patrol was started by Wayne Stewart and the concept was thought about in 2012. Wayne started a charter company with his younger brothers in 1999 and successfully ran the company with his wife out of Dampier. The charters mainly focused on eco-tourism and marine education. Wayne became fascinated with sharks after coming into contact with them when diving off the coast of Western Australia. He is a strong believer of our youth as they are full of great ideas and enthusiasm. Wayne believes that they will bring a lot of knowledge and the skills needed to help protect our beaches as well as the conservation of sharks. This is the reason why he comes up with Shark Patrol website and app, which aim is to provide public safety by means of patrolling beaches and keeping the public safe and up to date with shark encounters and movements. This app enables the public to report shark sightings anytime and everywhere in an easy and quick way with the use of smartphones, tablet computers and other mobile devices. This app enables the public to determine the location that is infested by shark, identify shark type, take photo of the shark identified and gives educational information about sharks. It is an app that permits the public to tag a shark onto a map that will help the user detect beaches that is safe and unsafe to swim at. The idea is to have the public enjoy swimming in our beautiful beaches without the fear of being attacked by a shark and impart informative material that would help in conservation of sharks.
